Derek Barretto

I first developed my translation skills in Latin and Greek at Secondary school. I obtained the Diploma in Translation (Portuguese into English) in 1995 gaining Merit in Papers 1 and 3 and Distinction in Paper 2. Translation then was a sideline to my day job. Now I have retired from it I am focusing on developing my literary translation career. In June 2021 I was awarded a translation residency at the National Centre for Writing in Norwich. I am currently working on a translation of Madrugada Fria by the Portuguese poet Laura DaSilva. I am a member of ETN (Emerging Translators' Network)and the Chartered Institute of Linguists. I hold a Master's degree in Classics from the University of Cambridge.
