George Newton
George earned a First Class degree in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Oxford in 2023, where he studied a wide range of literature from across the Portuguese-speaking world and took an active role in many translation projects.
These projects included translating crónicas for Mapas do Confinamento from Portuguese into English and working as a head editor of the Oxford Anthology of Translation (OAT), a publication featuring literary translations from a vast range of languages into English.
Following his undergraduate degree, George worked in Luxembourg as a translator for two EU institutions, first as a trainee at the European Parliament and then on a short-term contract at the EIB.
