Sarah Greenwood
I'm a poet and translator from Portuguese to English. Originally from Blackburn, UK, I migrated to Southern Portugal in 2005. I hold a Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists and a BA in Drama from The University of Hull and in a somewhat distant past have worked as an actor, production assistant and street performer with giant puppets. I am a project coordinator for the multi-lingual poetry and translation festival Casa dos Poetas, which takes place in the medieval city of Silves each year. My translation of the surrealist play 'The Door Closed and the House was Small' by Ricardo Neves-Neves was selected and performed for Out of the Wings Festival 2022. I am interested in using translation as a tool to amplify the voices of under-represented writers, especially those of women and the LGBTQ+ community. I am also committed to championing writers from underrepresented regions such as the Algarve, where I live and work. I am a mother and birth rights activist.
