Sophie R Lewis

Sophie is a translator and an editor. With French and Portuguese, she has translated Natalia Borges Polesso, João Gilberto Noll, Stendhal, Verne, Leduc, Slimani, Lefebvre and Fellous, among others. Her translations have been shortlisted for the Scott Moncrieff and Republic of Consciousness prizes, and longlisted for the International Booker Prize. She co-founded the Shadow Heroes translation workshops enterprise – www.shadowheroes.org. Her co-translation of Sheyla Smanioto's Desesterro came out in 2023 with Boiler House Press, as Out of Earth. Her translation of Mulheres empilhadas, Patrícia Melo's novel about femicide in Brazil, is published by Restless Books (US) and Indigo Press (UK) in 2024. Her co-translation with James Young of Victor Heringer's novel Glória will be out later in 2024 with Peirene Press.
